I keep thinking of Moby’s gospel sounding song “I’m not worried at all”, because I can’t for the life of me understand why anybody wouldn’t wear a mask right now. In the middle of a pandemic. When there has been scientific evidence showing masks help reduce the spread of COVID.
And so all I can think is that song over & over again- that these people are not worried at all; not worried about themselves; not worried about others.

I believe the face mask has become an unconscious symbol of loss for people. And I think we all need to address this grief- grief of a life once was, and grief for non closure because the pandemic hit suddenly and all of our lives were upended instantly with little warning. But this sadness should not overshadow the real science of how this virus spreads. And as citizens living in community with each other, we should make a conscious effort to not project our grief onto others.

“All round me burdens/
Seem to fall/
I’m not worried at all/
I’m not worried at all/ I don’t worry/
All day long/ All round me burdens/
Seem to fall/
I’m not worried at all/
I’m not worried at all/ Just I’m not evil/
I just can not see/
He told me to pray/
Just for me/ All round me burdens/
Seem to fall/
I’m not worried at all/
I’m not worried at all” Moby
Technically- I wanted to weave a blue shape that resembled a disposable surgical face mask. When I cut the two warp strings in the middle of the shape, the rectangle began to droop, reminiscent of the face masks worn improperly under the nose/under the chin/etc. I will definitely have to work on structure going forward.
